2008 Great 8 Play Through Prizes

Saturday July 19th is the 2008 Great 8.

In order to play eight disc golf courses in one day (Zebulon, Cedar Hills, Kentwood, Buckhorn, Chapel Hill, Valley Springs, Cedarock, Wellspring) participants have to be a little more aggressive about playing fast, which occasionally means asking other groups of golfers on the course if we can "play through."

To express our appreciation to the disc golfing community, this year we are offering a number of "play through prizes." Here's how it works: if you let one or more groups participating in The Great 8 play through on one of the courses above, leave your name and some way to contact you (preferably an email link) in the comment area of this blog entry. On Sunday the 20th I'll do a drawing from the names here, and if your name is picked you win a prize. That's it. No catches--just our way of saying thanks for helping us meet the goal of eight courses in one day.

Here is a current list of prizes:

1 DX Ontario Roc (New, Hot stamped with circular red flame pattern but no writing).
1 2007 Ice Bowl DX Roc (New).
1 KC Pro 12x Roc (New)
1 Justice League: New Frontier DVD (Used)
1 Cinderella Man DVD (Used, Russel Crowe)
1 Hoyle Classic Card Game CD-Rom for PC (Play Hearts, Spades, Poker, Euchre, and other games on your computer)
1 World Series of Poker CD-Rom Game for PC
1 Dixie Chicks Wide Open Spaces CD
1 Portable MP3 Player with USB PC interface (Used--Holds 18 to 20 MP3 songs; needs 1 AAA battery [not included])

We played today out at UNC. We let around 12 people play through us so that they could finish up quicker. Hopefully the rain didn't delay any groups.

Thanks to all our disc golf friends who helped make this a great event. All 19 groups finished (including the two players doing singles!). Results should be posted soon at http://www.thegreat8.com. Below is the result of the drawing which determines the order in which respondents can select prizes. I will send the order to those who left e-mails as well.

I'm generally at Kentwood on Friday's at 6:00 and can meet people most takes at Sharon Harris most days. If you prefer to have your prize mailed to you, please include a mailing address in your e-mail.

Those who are lower down on the list can either wait a day to see which prizes are left or can send me a list with your order of preference for the prizes and I will reserve for you the most desired remaining prize when your name comes up.

Robert--you didn't leave me a contact e-mail or anything, so let me know via e-mail or a subsequent comment how you would like to get your prize.

Drawing results--if your number is 1, you get to pick first, 2, you can pick from the remaining prizes and so on down the list:

1)Amy Keeter
2)Chris Stallings
3) Robert
4) Jonathan Shepherd
5) Michael Medlin
6) Will Whitaker
7) Devon Brusseau
8) Jimmy Stallings

Thanks again to everyone who let us play through!

Postscript--My partner (Todd) and I finished with a 402, good enough for third place in the intermediate (AM) division. We (and a few other groups) finished the last hole at Cedarock with less than 5 minutes on the clock, so we probably would not have made the 8:30 pm deadline if people all day had not been so generous about helping us finish.

I've heard from Amy, Michael, and Jonathan about which prizes they prefer.

Will, Devon, Chris, and Jimmy feel free to e-mail me a first choice and an alternate choice from the prize list. If your first or second choice is available, I'll send it to you (or meet you at one of the Raleigh or Durham/Chapel Hill courses if you prefer). If both your first and second choice has already been taken, I'll e-mail you back with what's available.
